Beth Israel Center
In May of 2014, the congregation of Beth Israel Center broke ground on the renovation of its 1950s-era synagogue, located in a neighborhood on the near west side of Madison. Sixty percent of the existing structure was retained, while the remaining 40% was demolished and new structure was rebuilt. The new building incudes a main sanctuary, which can expand to a capacity of 600 for high holiday services, a small sanctuary, classrooms for Jewish day school, administrative and social hall spaces, a kitchen (meat and parve), and a Mikveh (a bath for ritual immersion). The total project cost was $6.2 million for 31,000 square feet, and it reopened in December 2014.
