Domestic Abuse Intervention Services (DAIS)
In 2011, DAIS began plans to move to a new location in the north side of Madison. An old Sears small-machine shop at 2102 Fordem Avenue was purchased and converted into offices and meeting space. In addition, a new residential addition was built to house victims of domestic abuse. The new Fordum Avenue location, spanning over 35,000 square feet, transformed the landscape. The shelter's capacity increased from 25 to 56 beds, providing ample space for potential legal services and a 24-hour helpline. This expansion addressed the critical shortage, offering a lifeline for those in distress. DAIS is the only domestic abouse shelter in Dane County.
